Case 1: Reduced Changeover & Batch Reconciliation
A large pharmaceutical company with a bulk tablet manufacturing and packaging facility located in Europe implemented a material movements and enterprise labelling solution from IMEC. The resulting benefits include reduced changeover times and a more efficient and timely batch reconciliation process. Another operational benefit was the removal of the bottleneck in the label printing room by implementing online label printing. The provision of material movement transactions into the ERP system increased the return on investment from the ERP system and was only possible by providing accurate transaction data directly from the plant floor.
Case 2: Increased ROI on SAP System
A large pharmaceutical company with a bulk pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Europe implemented a material tracking system with full integration into their SAP ERP system. The implementation was into an intrinsically safe environment, which was highly regulated. The benefits gained through the provision of material movement transactions into the ERP system were an improved return on investment on the SAP system as well as increased productivity and plant throughput without an associated increase in overhead costs.
Case 3: Royal Shrewsbury & Telford NHS Trust
An NHS Acute hospital in the UK implemented a hazardous waste material tracking solution from IMEC. The need to provide accurate and up-to-date knowledge about clinical waste disposal lead to the installation and implementation of Hazmat T&T.
Any waste produced by the hospital is tracked down from the point of generation until it is removed by a waste disposal contractor. A comprehensive audit trail is produced and is accessible to all of the waste management staff through an electronic database.
The resulting benefits include reduced costs, increased trust in the disposal process and the ability to analyse the departmental waste types allows for the reduction in the amount of general wastre produced.
The full accountability means that the government regulators have increased trust in the hospital and the part that they play in the local environment.
Case 4: Thermoking case study
IMEC Technologies partnered with Aeroscout to bring a just-in-time parts replenishment solution to a manufacturer of transport temperature control systems to improve efficiency at its major manufacturing facility in Ireland.
A solution using a hundred of AeroScout’s T3 Wi-Fi-based Active RFID tags were implemented to optimize efficiency at the manufacturing facility. These tags use standard Wi-Fi and leverage the facility’s existing Cisco Unified Wireless Network, when additional parts are needed, workers at the facility use the call buttons integrated into AeroScout’s T3 tags to wirelessly signal for parts replenishment and raise a flag in the system for reorder. IMEC integrated AeroScout’s MobileView 4.0 software with the internal logistics software, so that calls from the tags create work orders in the system for parts replenishment.
The RFID solution enabled the company to improve productivity. In the future, there are plans to further increase the efficiency with additional visibility applications, such as tracking the location of dollies between various facilities.
